Willie Ray Carmon, 73

Willie Ray Carmon of New Haven, Connecticut entered eternal rest on February 15, 2023, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. 

Willie, affectionately known as Ray, was born on August 1, 1949, in Pitts County, NC to Herman O. Tyson and Janie Mae (Carmon) Thomas.

Ray grew up and thrived in New Haven. He was a prominent basketball player and graduate of both Wilbur Cross High School and New Mexico Highland University. He was an entrepreneur with a successful sales career until his retirement from Acura. He enjoyed quality time with family and loved tennis, cars and building, creating and fixing almost anything.

Ray leaves behind his lovely wife Deirdra Boynton-Carmon of New Haven, CT; daughter Myesha Carmon of Burlington, North Caroline; son Kemal Carmon (Toni) of Burlington, North Carolina; mother-in-law Josephine Boynton (William Al”) of New Haven, CT; and grandchildren Xavier Carmon-Barnett, Adriana Carmon and Dominic Carmon of North Carolina.

He also bids goodbye to siblings Earl Tyson (Velma); Debbie Carmon; Diane Steele (David); Valerie Tilley (Tim); Samuel Carmon; Frankie Thomas; Tammy Thomas; Major Nelson and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and devoted friends. He was predeceased by his parents Herman O. Tyson; Janine Mae (Carmon) Thomas; and grandparents Benjamin and Geneva Carmon.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, March 10, 2023; 10:00 AM at Ebenezer Chapel (50 Dwight St. New Haven, CT 06511).
