The Fair Haven community is partnering with Fair Haven Community Health Care (FHCHC) to launch a “Vaccinate Fair Haven” campaign to register all eligible residents for their Covid-19 shot.
A pitch for support for government money turned into a rapid-fire virtual grassroots fundraiser, with Dwight neighbors deciding to dig into their own pockets to help prevent sickle cell disease.
Newhallville residents expressed their support for a citywide proposal to require that all nearby residents receive mandatory notice of pending public regulatory decisions that could affect them.

A 40-foot utility support pole plunked in the flowerbed at the corner of Wooster and Olive streets will return to its original location across the street, on a block being transformed into a six-story apartment complex.
The developer who first moved the pole made this promise to Wooster Square neighbors Tuesday evening.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, as Robert Frost once wrote — but they are sometimes also knee-deep in trash and in need of a major clean-up, new trails, bridges, and sustained TLC.
Laurie Lopez is about to start a new city job that continues the mission she has pursued with passion for decades in Fair Haven: cleaning up trashed public areas so everyone can enjoy them.
Long wait times to book vaccination appointments by phone. Transportation difficulties. Lack of information about how to sign up.
Dwight neighbors raised these observations as they considered why nonwhite seniors in particular seem few and far between at Covid-19 vaccination sites in New Haven.
Ahead of an anticipated deluge of evictions, advocates are pushing for the state to guarantee legal representation for tenants who find themselves in housing court.

Cornell Scott Hill Health Center CEO Michael Taylor got his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine when a patient did not show up for their vaccination appointment.
The only side effect he experienced was a sore arm.

More people have been buying canines during the past year’s pandemic, and the pooches need training and walking.
Enter Sue DeMaio of the dog training and boarding business Sit Stay Train & Play. She has rented warehouse space for a training and boarding facility at 36 River St. in Fair Haven just west of Ferry, to expand her business.
Three years after its last failed attempt, the city is gearing up again to find someone to redevelop the vacant former Strong School — this time by extending the vision of change to the surrounding “district.”

Claribel Espino struggled to hold back tears when Christmas came early Sunday to her family’s door on Plymouth Street.
“These gifts are helping out a lot. Times are tough because of the pandemic,” she said. “People aren’t working, the kids are home all of the time, and it’s been stressful.”
The final remains of the old Winchester Arms factory — a now-rotting building that reeks of oil on a hot summer’s day — is slated to be replaced with a new mixed-use apartment complex.
Dixwell residents pressed a redevelopment team on whether they and their neighbors will be welcomed there.
