Plans to convert a former Westville bank building into a restaurant serving tacos, ceviche, and mixed drinks won a key city sign-off, pushing the project that much closer to its planned completion date next February.

Local builders purchased a Mill River office building for $4.65 million and plan to hold off converting it to market-rate apartments until they’re convinced the neighborhood warrants the investment.
Among other land transactions, a sale has been completed of the Lesley Roy studio in Westville Village, where an agency aimed at foster children plans to take over.

A Westville cop caught a man who swiped a purse out of the back seat of a car involved in a crash. A carpet-cleaning company employee swindled a customer out of an $8,000 rug, while another scammer (“Andrew Williams”) used the internet to bilk a Westville woman out of $500.

“Over the last few weeks, we have seen a decrease in car break-ins. This has been achieved by a partnership between the police and the community to address this uptick. The police have increased patrols, and arrested car thieves while residents have provided me with video footage (used to ID perps and help pinpoint areas to deploy resources) and remembered to lock their vehicles. Let’s keep it up!”

This time, thieves made off with $400 prescription sunglasses, two 24-karat gold rings, $1,500 surgical glasses, and a watch among other booty just sitting there ready for the pilfering in unlocked cars parked on New Haven’s west side.

Ana De Los Angeles and her family celebrated the 10 year anniversary of their Westville cafe Manjares with the official grand opening of the coffee spot/restaurant’s bar, Manjares Tapas, and a block party as a thank-you gift to the neighborhood.
Westville kicked off its annual “Hi-Fi Pie” competition and fest on Monday evening with 10 homemade stone fruit pies, a live music performance by the band Zikina, and Southern-style barbeque food options from the Oak Haven Mobile Kitchen.
