Former student, current instructor Paul Nunez hosts drilling practice.
In a Fair Haven warehouse, Paul Nunez watched closely as his student drilled a hole into a soon-to-be light fixture — reminding Nunez that less than a month ago, he was the one learning those same manufacturing skills on the same machine at the Manufacturing and Community Technical Hub (MATCH).

On the trail again ...
A walk by the New Haven Bioregional Group followed part of the route through Morris Cove of the proposed Shoreline Greenway Trail, which will connect the Farmington Canal Trail to the shore. In the process, it revealed a complex history of land use, and the ways that the push and pull of industrial use versus green spaces have shaped — and continue to shape — the neighborhood.
Angel Hubbard and Miguel Pittman are vying for a Hill North Board of Alders seat.
Local restaurateur Miguel Pittman and home healthcare provider Angel Hubbard are officially running to replace former Alder Ron Hurt in a special election to determine who will represent the Hill’s Ward 3 on the Board of Alders.
Anstress Farwell at Monday's meetup: Hadley Hall's replacement should prioritize "eyes on the street."
Yale plans to start the months-long process of demolishing a former graduate student dormitory at 420 Temple St. in February, while the building slated to replace it is still being designed.

402 Crown St.: 2 apartments, coming up?
A vacant former Crown Street car rental center is slated to become two new apartments — after the landlord’s attorney explained that now is not the best financial time to knock down the commercial structure and build a big new building in its stead.

The sky hanging over the New Haven Green may have been hazy Saturday, but to anyone attending the Black Wall Street Festival it was clear that this was the place to be.
Over 200 vendors dotted the lawn and lined up along Temple and Church Streets to offer a stunning variety of products and services — some to help treat your body, mind, soul, and spirit, some to help you look and feel good, and some to simply help you have fun under the summer sun.
I don’t remember all that happened when I camped with other young antiwar protesters outside the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
I do remember — as the nation is remembering now on the eve of next week’s Democratic National Convention — that young antiwar protesters assembled there to try to stop an unjust war, and ended up being attacked by rioting police officers on national television, while the Democratic Party tried unsuccessfully to rally around a last-minute change in who ran for president.
Bayan Albakkour: A phone-free example for her siblings.
Adona Blair with her cousin and younger sister: Locking away phones tells students you don't believe in them.
Metropolitan Business Academy rising junior Bayan Albakkour thinks that Yondr cellphone pouches — a method for creating phone-free spaces that some New Haven schools are adopting — are a good idea to help students focus on class by hiding a key source of distraction.
Her best friend, meanwhile, remains unconvinced — and thinks these cases that lock away students’ phones for the day will only encourage students to rebel more.
That debate will play out this fall as three New Haven public schools experiment with stowing away phones after a pilot year at Barnard.
