Jesarel Calixto, an immigrant hailing from Tlaxcala, Mexico, is the proprietor of his own business Calixto Landscaping, LLC, a company that deals with gardening, tree trimmings and other services. He came to us to report that the nursing home “Paradigm Healthcare” has not paid him sums amounting to $10,000 that it owes Calixto for work performed in its two buildings, located at 181 Clifton St. in New Haven and 310 Terrace Ave.in West Haven.

Groups of muggers assault undocumented immigrants—especially from Mexico, Central America, and South America — to steal the money they’ve earned after working hard for long hours.

The political arena in New Haven is heating up with seven candidates for the coming election, which will determine the successor to John DeStefano Jr. as mayor. DeStefano is retiring from that position after 20 years of heading the local administration. Among the candidates for mayor, the presence of Henry Fernandez stands out. He has been directly involved in the development of this area for more than two decades, in addition to being at the head of advocacy and support organizations for the general Latino community, not only on a local level, but also on a national level. We spoke for a while with the young candidate and graduate of Yale Law School.

Though Justin Elicker is relatively new to the political scene as he is currently in his second term as alderman for the East Rock neighborhood, he prides himself in the devotion he has to his constituents and the fresh perspective he can bring for planning of the city’s future.
Elicker, who is 37, is a graduate of the Yale School of Management and the Yale School of Forestry, and previously worked as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer for the State Department and was stationed in Washington D.C., Taiwan, and Hong Kong. His platform as a mayoral candidate emphasizes the importance of school reform, economic development, and increasing public safety.

Once a cockroach crawled into her ear while she was asleep, and days later, it laid eggs inside her ear canal. Now she lives in a Fair Haven elderly complex — and the cockroaches are back.
The Fair Haven Elderly Apartments complex have become a nightmare for inhabitants, due to assaults, vandalized cars (pictured), and lack of security, not to mention an invasion of cockroaches and mice.
