Who Let the Dawgz In?

So many of the free Wednesday rock shows at BAR are indie or alt- or underground, it’s notable that tonight’s is the Funky Dawgz Brass Band, a UConn combo which blends the funk with a New Orleans jazz groove and tons of horns. The opening act is a more contemporary funk-rock act, MOJO, from Black Rock, Connecticut. 9 pm. 254 Crown St.

Earthy

Mitchell Branch Library (37 Harrison St., 203 – 946-8117) is holding an Earth Day Celebration with recycled crafts and games” and messy fun for kids of all ages” from 3 to 5 p.m. Earth Day is apparently a flexible concept, since the Wilson Branch library is holding a similar celebration two days from now, April 18, at 1 p.m. (The international celebration of Earth Day is really April 22.)

Earthier
There’s a benefit for EcoWorks, the only creative reuse center in Connecticut,” 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Lyric Hall (827 Whalley Ave., 203 – 389-8885). There’s live music, refreshments, crafts activities, and a silent auction.

Spot On

Eat Read Love
Creative Arts Workshops annual Edible Book Tea is today. It’s an unjuried art event where participants bring food that’s made to look literary, then have tea and enjoy each other’s book/food/art. Shadow Plays
Yale’s undergraduate African-American drama troupe, The Heritage Theater Ensemble, performs scenes from plays featured in the current Casting Shadows: Performance Showcase” exhibit at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library (121 Wall St.).
