For the third year, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas is looking for local performers to showcase during its upcoming season.
According to its website, the festival will be accepting “submissions from all performing disciplines including music, theater, dance, and storytelling” through March 15. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to perform for audiences on the New Haven Green on June 23 or June 24, during the afternoon.
Artists whose work does not require a stage and could be presented in non-traditional performance venues are welcome to apply.
Melissa Huber, the festival’s program manager, said that “in one form or another, the festival, throughout its history, has wanted to engage local performers. … We have used this particular call for artists … as a wonderful way for us to get to know the breadth and depth of the local talent.”
Huber said some local performers who’ve participated in the organization’s showcase program have been asked to perform the following year as part of the festival’s Noon to Night concert series.
The festival, Huber said, is looking for “people who are committed to presenting their work,” whether they’re established or emerging artists.
Huber said it can be difficult for emerging artists to capture the attention of programming staffs at performing-arts festivals.
“Here,” Huber said, “through this process, we really commit ourselves to reviewing all the applications that come through.”
