Look for cars to drive a little more slowly in Westville, thanks to new bonding money from the state.
State Rep. Pat Dillon and state Sen. Toni Harp Friday hailed the “imminent release” of state money for traffic-calming improvements in Westville.
The $424,227 improvement plan is on the State Bond Commission agenda for next Friday, when it is expected to find approval.
In a release, Dillon said the improvements will bolster continued economic growth in the area. Dillon testified in support of the plan in February 2012. Click the play arrow to watch her and other Westvillians speak at the Capitol.
State Rep. Dillon introduced the legislation behind the improvements, which include curb “bump-outs” and improved street lighting. The bill was co-sponsored by Dillon, Harp and by State Rep. Toni Walker.
“I’m grateful to Governor Malloy for including this project on next week’s agenda and encourage bond commission members to consider it favorably,” Harp stated in a release. “The public safety features in this project are most worthy of the state’s investment and will help perpetuate Westville’s reputation as a desirable New Haven address for businesses and residents alike.”
“The people who live and work near this section of Whalley Avenue have worked incredibly hard to make it a brand and destination,” Rep. Dillon said. “Thank you Governor Malloy for supporting safety and jobs in Westville Village.”
