James Bundy will remain dean of the Yale School of Drama and artistic director of the Yale Repertory Theatre through at least 2017. Bundy, a Yale School of Drama graduate whose current tenure began in 2002, was appointed by Yale University President Richard Levin to a third consecutive five-year term, which is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2012.

In a press release issued today by the university, Levin said, in part, James is a rare combination of artist and level-headed business person necessary for these changing times in the arts.”

Yale School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre comprise a truly global theatrical community of faculty, staff, students, guest artists, alumni, and supporters around the world, whose geographical reach is exceeded only by that of their imaginations in theatre, television, film, and many other professional arenas,” Bundy is quoted as saying.

Bundy was unavailable for further comment Tuesday. He is in his ninth year in the job.

In that time, he has boosted financial aid at the school. And five of the plays Yale Rep has produced during his tenure have captured Connecticut Critics Circle Best Production” awards. Two of which have been Pulitzer Prize finalists.
