The Edwards family lost “everything” in a fire that gutted their home. Now their church is running a drive to collect clothing and donations in response.
So reports Nakia Dawson of Sweet Hope Free Will Baptist Church. She has organized the drive to take place this Saturday.
Tim Edwards (in photo at the scene) was in the family’s first-floor 375 Sherman Ave. apartment on Mother’s Day (May 8) cooking his mom “steak, chicken, rice, corn” and other treats. He went down the street to pick up butter at the corner store. He thought he’d turned off the stove. Before he returned, the house erupted in flames. It took 42 firefighters to douse the three-alarm blaze; Edwards’ family and the third floor’s occupants lost their homes. (The second floor was vacant.)
Edwards’ parents were across town at Sweet Hope — where mom is an usher, dad a deacon — at the time of the fire.
Saturday’s “‘Helping You Out Where It’s Needed’ Clothing & Household Items Drive” will take place at Sweet Hope, 57 Farren Ave., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Among the items needed: “Men’s Clothing: Size 50R, Shoe Size 11, Shirt Size 3x, Pant Size 34/32, Shirt Size XL, Shoe Size 10, Woman’s Clothing: Shirt Size 3x, Shoe Size 11, Skirt Size 22.”
