(Updated Sunday 10:08 a.m.) A passenger was killed, and the driver injured, when a car zooming down Forest Road rolled over early Saturday, police said.
Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer Dave Hartman:
At 1:17 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the scene of a crash on Forest Road near West Elm Street in Westville. They found a vehicle that had rolled over. Fire department emergency personnel extracted the 21-year-old driver, Antonio Valentino of West Haven, who was rushed to the hospital. “His condition has not been reported,” Hartman said.
A passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Lt. Jeff Hoffman Sunday identified the man as Jose Martinez Albarron, 19, of East Haven. He also said Valentino appeared to have survived the crash.
“The department’s Fatal Crash Team is investigating,” Hartman said. “The team’s supervisor, Sgt. Gregory Catania reports excessive speed was at least a contributing factor in this crash.”
In other police news, according to Hartman, police are investigating two shootings:
At 11:21 a.m. Friday, police responded to reports of two men shot on Jackson Lane, near the Bella Vista senior housing complex. They found two 26-year-old men. One had been shot in the abdomen, the other in the leg. Both were taken to the hospital, where they were in stable condition.
At 2:38 a.m., the city’s ShotSpotter gunshot-alert system indicated gunfire on Harding Place in Newhallville. 911 callers reports an argument resulting in a woman shot. Police found a 32-year-old Massachusetts woman who had been shot in the abdomen while on the porch of a house. She was taken to the hospital, where her condition was listed as serious.
