How Do You Use The Independent?

fish%20wrap%20paper.pngWe know you don’t wrap fish in it.

What we don’t know: How do you look for stories you’re interested in? Is it easy to find your way around the site?

How can we design it better?

Do you look up stories by categories — City Hall, Neighborhoods, Environment, etc. — in the sections” menu at the top left-hand corner of the page? Do you use the separate Neighborhood News directory? Is the site search helpful?

Do you visit the site once a day, several times a day, or less often? Do you click on the Next 10 stories” button at the bottom of the page? Is material available for long enough, or do you find it hard to locate stories you’d like to read?

Should we separate some items — such as obituaries or daily debates or legal notices — out of the Extra! Extra!” column as discrete stand-alone boxes?

Are you aware of the events calendar in the top right-hand corner of the home page? SeeClickFix? The interactive crime map in the far left-hand column? Do you use them?

Which features are useful? Which aren’t?

What other websites are designed in a way you find easy to navigate?

Here’s why we’re asking: We’re about to switch to a new publishing platform, the behind-the-screen software that enables us to post stories and move material around. We’ll have more flexibility in how we present material on our pages.

What can we do better?
