Neighborhood Music School has identified its 2010 – 2011 Warner Scholars. The award recipients are cellist Heather Buleje (a senior at Wilbur Cross High School), violinist Lily Engbith (a sophomore at Wilbur Cross High School), violinist Justin Green (a senior at Hillhouse High School), clarinetist and saxophonist Danae Morgan (a senior at Wilbur Cross High School), and violinist Maya Rosen-Buell (a senior at Wilbur Cross High School).

The scholarship award takes its name from Neighborhood Music School’s Dr. Regina M. Lilly-Warner Fund, which was established in 2008 in partnership with its namesake, a tireless advocate for music education in the public school system,” according to a press release issued Monday by the school.

Lilly-Warner, who died in January, will be honored and remembered at a fundraising event scheduled for Sunday, April 10, at the New Haven Country Club. Proceeds from the event will be directed to the fund, which provides tuition assistance to New Haven public school students studying at Neighborhood Music School and also supports the school’s Instrumental Impact program.

Scholarship awards range from $250 to $2,500 depending on financial need.

According to the school’s press release, These talented musicians have been recognized for this award because of their commitment to both their music and academic studies and their community citizenship. These exemplary role models demonstrate the importance of arts education in inspiring learning and creating opportunity.”

Neighborhood Music School Executive Director Larry Zukof was quoted in the press release as saying, We are so proud to have these dynamic young students participating in the wide variety of learning opportunities available at Neighborhood Music School. … They are a vital part of the Neighborhood Music School community and we’re honored to be able to support their success.”
