New Haven Chorale Music Director Edward Bolkovac, who lived in Hungary for about three years while studying at the Franz Lizst Academy of Music, said the ensemble will perform Mozart’s Mass No. 9 in C major, K. 220 (K. 196b) (“Spatzenmesse”) along with a collection of early music and “a lot of Americana,” including (American) folk songs and spirituals.
In a press release issued by the New Haven Chorale, Bolkovac was quoted as saying: “This tour will be one of the culminating activities of the Chorale’s 60th anniversary.”
The ensemble has been in existence since 1950.
Bolkovac, who’s been music director of the New Haven Chorale since 2003, will lead 35 to 40 vocalists from the ensemble (nearly half the chorale’s personnel) on the upcoming European tour.
