The New Haven Symphony Orchestra has announced that it will partner with the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra and Alexion Pharmaceuticals to deliver a new, music-based curriculum, the “Alexion Toolkit for Interdisciplinary Learning,” to “25 schools served by the NHSO and WSO,” according to an NHSO press release.
“This all-inclusive educational module provides school teachers with the necessary tools to integrate music-learning into general curriculum,” the press release indicates. “It focuses on an eclectic mix of musical heroes … (and) includes a prep guide for teachers with easy-to-use lessons plans explained at a teacher training workshop.”
In addition to visual and audio components, the program will call on NHSO and WSO musicians, who’ll “visit each school to promote the program and teach students about these musical heroes.”
Laura Adam, the NHSO’s education director, was quoted in her organization’s press release as saying the new, music-based progam “will reach thousands of students and provide teachers with a meaningful and relevant resource for arts integration.”
Alexion Pharmaceuticals, whose headquarters will move from Cheshire to New Haven in the next few years, as Gov. Dannel Malloy announced in June, is providing support for the music-based education program.
