Symphony Names Interim Executive Director

Elaine Carroll

Monday, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra announced that Elaine Carroll will serve as the organization’s interim executive director, beginning June 1. Carroll will take over for Natalie Forbes — who served as the orchestra’s executive director for six years before announcing her departure in February — until the organization hires a permanent replacement.

The orchestra has retained the services of the Catherine French Group, which Carroll described as a real leader in our industry,” to help the organization identify a permanent executive director.

Carroll has served as the Stamford Symphony’s general manager and the Westchester Philharmonic’s executive director and has secured grant funding from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism, New York State Foundation for the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and U.S. Department of Education, according to a press release issued by the New Haven Symphony Orchestra on Monday.

Carroll believes that the organization is in good shape, due in large part to its music director, William Boughton.

He has a very progressive and practical” vision for the orchestra and its role in New Haven, Carroll said. He really sees it as a community asset.”

Carroll said, The audience really grew by quite a bit this year. … People are very much responding to him and to his programs.”
