Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks has accepted an invitation from Yale College seniors to speak during this year’s Class Day ceremonies, according to Yale University Press Secretary Thomas Conroy.
Recent Class Day speakers have included former United States President William Jefferson Clinton, author Christopher Buckley — whose books include Supreme Courtship, Thank You for Smoking, and The White House Mess, among others — and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Class Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 22, the day before Yale University’s commencement ceremony.
Hanks won Academy Awards for his leading roles in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. In 2009, Hanks was honored at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s annual Gala Tribute.
