Weekend Roundup: 3 Assaults, 1 Gun Arrest

A stolen-car arrest led to two other sets of charges, including recovery of a loaded weapon.

Hamden Police Officer Christina Giori made those arrests on Sunday.

Around 9:15 p.m. Giori spotted a car that had been reported stolen last month out of Middlebury traveling southbound on Dixwell Avenue. She stopped the driver over the city line in New Haven at Dixwell Avenue and Pond Street. Girori found a loaded unpermitted 9 mm handgun in the vehicle, and a passenger wanted on a warrant out of Bridgeport, according to Hamden police spokesperson Capt. Ronald Smith. The passenger was arrested. So was the driver, a 27-year-old New Haven woman charged with first-degree larceny, possession of a large-capacity magazine and carrying a pistol without a permit.

In other weekend crime news, New Haven police reported three attacks in town: a 28-year-old West Haven woman shot Saturday around 5 a.m.; a 22-year-old man shot on Davenport Avenue Sunday around 6:15 p.m.; and a 34-year-old man stabbed on Gilbert Avenue between Greenwood and Orchard streets Monday around 6 a.m. All the victims are listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
