Drunk Driver Caught

A woman admitted she was too drunk to drive” — after she crashed into a car on the Boulevard, then one at Marvel Road and West Elm.

Meanwhile, a burglar left some scatalogical traces behind after making off with a DVD player, a laptop, and over 1,000 DVDs from the apartment of a man who was in the hospital.

Those are among the items in west side top cop Lt. Rose Dell’s latest weekly crime summary, which follows:

FROM 11/10/19 to 11/16/19 POLICE RESPONDED TO 144 CALLS FOR SERVICE IN THE WESTVILLE/WEST HILLS SECTION OF NEW HAVENTHE FOLLOWING ISBRIEF SUMMARY OF NOTABLE INCIDENTS:

On 11/10, Officer Annastassia Scott responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Marvel Road and West Elm Street. The operator of the offending vehicle admitted that she had been at a bar downtown and was too drunk to drive. Another individual on scene approached the Officers and said his vehicle was also struck by the drunk driver on Martin Luther King Boulevard. She took off after she rear-ended another vehicle and then reversed into his. He followed her from the Boulevard to West Elm Street. She was arrested for driving under the influence and for the hit-and-run accident.

A 2017 black Lincoln MKZ was stolen from the Stop & Shop parking lot (112 Amity Road) on 11/11. The car keys and the owner’s wallet were left in the cup holder. An ATM card was used to withdraw $160, and a credit card was swiped (but declined) at Burlington Coat Factory in Orange.

Tuesday morning Officer Patrick Bengston responded to Hopkins School on a harassment complaint. Over the past year, an unknown male with a gruff sounding voice has contacted the school on numerous occasions and asked to speak with a current teacher. He used several different names of prominent individuals all with Italian last names. In a few phone calls, he accused the teacher of putting his hands on his daughter” but refused to provide any further information on his identity or his daughter’s. The teacher then received a package at his home addressed to Douchebag Inc.” which contained a bag of colorful candies each shaped like male genitalia. The investigation is ongoing.

A resident of 400 Blake Street found all 4 wheels had been removed from his Honda Accord sometime overnight on 11/12. This is the second time his tires and rims have been stolen off his vehicle when parked in the garage.

Overnight on 11/13, an Apple MacBook and AirPods were stolen from a vehicle parked in a rear parking lot behind the Village. She thought she locked her vehicle but acknowledged that the battery in her key fob might need to be replaced.

On 11/13, a resident of the 200 block of Fitch Street reported that someone broke into his apartment while he was in the hospital being treated for injuries from a car accident. His bedroom window was pushed in and someone urinated and defecated on his bed. His laptop, DVD player and over 1000 DVDs were also stolen from his room.
