Henry Kramer, an artist diploma candidate at the Yale School of Music, earned a second-place prize award earlier this month at the China Shanghai International Piano Competition.
Kramer earned the award along with Wenbin Jin, who earned a Certificate of Performance from the Yale School of Music in 2009.
According to a Yale School of Music news release, “both also won additional prizes: Jin for Best Performance of the Chinese Commissioned Work and Best Chinese Contestant, and Kramer for Best Performance of Lieder.”
Kramer and Jin split a $20,000 (U.S.) cash prize. They each received an additional $1,000 for each category prize, per information provided on the competition website.
Judges for the sixth iteration of the competition included Robert Blocker, Hung-Kuan Chen, and Peter Frankl, each of whom is a member of the Yale School of Music faculty.
The Yale School of Music news release indicates that Jin studied with Chen at the New England Conservatory.
