Yale Poet Wins Fellowship in Berlin

Richard Deming

Poet Richard Deming, a lecture in English at Yale University, has been named the American Academy in Berlin’s 2012 John P. Birkelund Fellow.

According to its website, the Academy offers residential fellowships at its Hans Arnhold Center to American scholars, writers, policymakers, and artists, permitting them to pursue their work in a manner that encourages participation in the vibrant life of Berlin and Germany.”

Past fellows include Jeffrey Eugenides and Jonathan Safran Foer, to name just a few.

During his time at the academy,” a Yale University news release indicates, “(Deming) will work on the completion of two books, Everyday Domain: The Ordinary in Art, Film, Philosophy and Poetry: Day for Night.

Deming’s first collection of poems, Let’s Not Call it Consequence, was published in 2008 by Shearsman Books.
