The Whiffenpoofs are scheduled to perform at the White House on Tuesday for President Barack Obama and the first family.
Alexander Oki, the ensemble’s business manager, was quoted in a Yale University news release as saying, “We will be singing a series of holiday songs woven in with our traditional mixed-genre repertoire.”
“Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush have also hosted the group,” according to the news release, which also indicates that “on Dec. 17, the Yale group will join peers from Harvard and Princeton at Alice Tully Hall in Manhattan in a benefit concert for The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation & The Trevor Project.”
According to its website, the Yale University-based a capella group began in 1909 as a quartet. Today, the ensemble is made up of 14 Yale University seniors.
