Michael Yeargan, who graduated from the Yale School of Drama in 1972, has been named co-chair of the program’s design department, according to a press release issued by the school on Tuesday. Yeargan, who’s taught and worked at the Yale School of Drama since 1973, will assume his new role alongside Stephen Strawbridge on July 1, succeeding Ming Cho Lee.
According to the above-mentioned press release, “Lee will continue to teach full-time in the design department at Yale School of Drama, where he has taught since 1969 and has chaired or co-chaired the Department since 1993,” and “Yeargan … will also serve as set design advisor for Yale Repertory Theatre in addition to his current position as resident set designer.”
James Bundy, who serves as dean of the Yale School of Drama and artistic director of the Yale Repertory Theatre, was quoted in the press release as saying, “Combining extraordinary sophistication with deeply resourceful creativity and the most generous collaborative spirit, Michael is uniquely positioned to join Steve Strawbridge in providing the next generation of leadership to the design department.”
