A man fired a bullet into a pit bull named “B” — and B lived to bark again.
Now police want to find the shooter.
The police have named the dog “B” for now because they don’t know the “brindle and white-colored” 1 1/2‑year-old male’s real name.
The shooting took place Sunday in Edgewood Park. Here’s what happened, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman:
A witness saw a man take the dog (pictured above) for a walk on Edgewood Park’s access road at 8:30 a.m.
“The dog seemed to trust his handler as the two strolled from the area of the duck pond toward the bridge,” according to Hartman. “Once beneath the bridge, the handler used the dog’s leash to restrain him tightly to the concrete railing. There was no slack in the leash. The dog had no ability
to move. The handler pointed a gun at the dog and shot him in the face. …
“The bullet missed his brain by a centimeter and remains lodged in his lower jaw. According to Dr. Lynda Perry, B should have no lasting effect from the bullet.”
After being treated at North Branford’s Pet Shield vet hospital, B is now “recovering” at the police department’s animal shelter on Fournier Street.
Police are asking anyone with information about the suspected shooter to contact them at 203 – 946-6316. Here’s the suspect’s description: “A dark complexioned black man in his early 30s. He stands between 5’09” and 5’11” and is of average weight considering his height. His hair is styled in very short dreadlocks, and he has no facial hair. He wore a black Champion coat with a black letter “C” on the left breast. He wore a deep red or maroon baseball cap with a light colored (possibly white or yellow) emblem on the front. He wore denim blue jeans and sneakers.”
