Ada Viola Ford Greene

As much as it pleased the Almighty God in His wise providence to take out of our midst our dearly beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, the Almighty God sent His angel to claim one of His own. 

Ada Viola Ford Greene, as sometimes affectionately called Mama Ada”, of New Haven, CT quietly slipped away on Monday, April 19, 2021. Ada Viola Ford Greene was born on November 2, 1935 in Georgetown, SC, to the late Frank George Ford, Sr., and Hannah Buck Ford as the seventh of twelve children.

In July 1962, Ada Viola Ford met and married the love of her life, Richard A. Greene, Jr. From this union, they were blessed with two children Karen and Gregory. Ada Viola Ford Greene early schooling began at Saint Mark Elementary School in Plantersville, SC. She furthered her education at Howard High School in Georgetown, SC graduating in June of 1958. She was an active member of the Glee Club. At an early age, Ada joined St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Georgetown, SC where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Choir. Ada and Richard Greene relocated to Connecticut in 1962. Ada Viola Ford Greene joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, New Haven, CT under the pastorate of the Reverend Dr. J. Stanley Justice. She was a member of the Pastor’s Aide Auxiliary. Ada Viola Ford Greene was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft from 1971 to 1982. After her employment with Pratt & Whitney, Ada went on to receive a Certificate of Nursing Assistant (CNA). She continued her working career at The Grimes Center, Yale New Haven Hospital, retiring in December 2016.

Ada Viola Ford Greene leaves to carry on her legacy, her children; Karen Cypress, Gregory Greene; Step-Daughter, Kelly Greene; Grandchildren, Lamar Jones, Brittany Jones, and Audrey Greene; Great Grandchildren, Latre’l Jones, Kaiona Spears, Lamar Jones, Jr., Audrey Fitzgerald, Kamryn Jones, Erin Fitzgerald, La’chelle Jones, Christin Holden and Casey Holden. Siblings, Geneva Alston, Mary Lou Milton, , John Arthur Ford (Daisy), and Ethel Hughie (Andrew) all of Georgetown, SC; sister in-laws, Bettye Greene and Bobbie Bromell ( Arthur) and Joseph Ford (Carolyn) of Frederick, MD.

Ada Viola Ford Greene was predeceased by her parents, Frank George Ford, Sr., and Hannah Buck Ford; Husband, Richard Greene; Siblings Ruth Joyner, Rev. Frank Ford, Jr., Ernestine McNeil, Sargent Ivory Ford, Edna Harvey, and Catherine Gamble.

Ada Viola Ford Greene lived her life to the fullest. She received joy from buying snacks for all the children. Some of her precious moments were cooking the family’s favorite dish and planting her favorite flowers. She loved her family, especially being with her grand and great grandchildren.
