Guy Adam Smith affectionately known as “Smitty”, was born in New Haven, CT, on April 2, 1965. He peacefully transitioned from life on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at his home, after a lengthy illness. Guy graduated from Coginchaug High School in Durham, CT in 1982. He furthered his education at Florida A & M University where he participated in track and ROTC.
Guy was employed with the State of Connecticut, New Haven Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer, until his retirement after 20 years of service. He spent 3 of those years in Community Enforcement, supervising home release inmates, and was a member of the Special Operations Group (SOG) for Corrections throughout the majority of his employment. Guy had a passion for all things athletic and excelled at most. He especially enjoyed sailing with his father, skiing, and long distance running. He was the co-owner, with his father, of Emerson’s Restaurant in New Haven where he enjoyed the day-to-day activities and welcoming all his favorite customers. He was a loving father, son, brother, and friend.
Guy leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Guy Adam Smith, Jr.; parents, Emerson and Louise Smith; grandson, Ayden Smith Jorge; brother, Emerson Smith, Jr.; former spouses, Lilliana Rodriquez and Holly Teixeira; stepsons, Thomas Holloman, III and Joaquim Holloman Teixeira; uncles, Greg (Harriet) Roberts, Charles (Theresa) Roe, and William Roe.
A memorial service will take place Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel St, New Haven.
