While her counterparts in Connecticut’s other top cities are waging bruising battles for reelection, Mayor Toni Harp won the Democratic Party’s unanimous endorsement for a second two-year term at a drama-free convention.
The convention took place Wednesday evening inside Career High School’s auditorium.
Nitza Diaz “hurts” to see English language learners (ELL) struggle to grasp the material, because she was there, too, as a teenager from Puerto Rico. She said she’s running for the Board of Education elected position in part to make the district’s ELL policies more consistent across all schools.

Standing in front of the former and future Q House, Jeanette Morrison announced she is running again for a Dixwell alder seat — in part to see the Q House’s revival through.
Toni Harp returned to a neighborhood where she faced fierce opposition two years ago, and emerged with a unanimous endorsement for reelection as mayor.

In two and a half years in office, Democratic Fair Haven Alder Santiago Berrios-Bones has risen to the position of the deputy majority leader and helped tackle the distribution of federal community development block grants.
He said he wants another term to tackle what has become a rallying point for several incumbent alders seeking re-election; to move the needle on jobs. But he’s not the only man after the job of representing Ward 14.
