State Rep. Dillon’s Republican opponent found it tough to get people to open their doors on the campaign trail. Dillon, by contrast, got not only a hello at the threshold of Mia Duff’s cozy house — but an invitation inside for a 20-minute chat on campaign issues.

Colorful canopies dotted a cordoned section of Judwin Avenue in upper Westville Sunday afternoon, as neighbors came out to enjoy a block party organized by former Alder Sergio Rodriguez and wife Randi Rubin-Rodriguez. The big draw was not a parked fire truck that drew out curious children, but a relaxed Governor Dannel P. Malloy sporting jeans and a blue dress shirt, making yet another reelection campaign stop in the city he needs to win big again on Nov. 4. Dan Malloy has said “yes” to New Haven a lot for the past four years. Now he’s asking for a big “yes” in return — and promising to turn his attention to improving the city’s beleaguered bus service.
Former President Bill Clinton told Democratic loyalists in a barely half-full Omni Ballroom Tuesday that they “have a job to do” — reelecting Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in a tough rematch against Republican Tom Foley.
Sharon Ferrucci and Delores Knight scrambled to field four-to-six-person teams to spend 16 hours at 40 different New Haven polling locations Tuesday — so the teams can wait around all day to help as few as two voters.
