Early-morning voting line at Bella Vista.
Voters lined up — at safe social distances — before polls opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday, as this video from Davis Street School Ward 26 precinct shows. (Thanks to Hilary Grant for sharing it. “I don’t think we’ve ever seen this before,” she said)
Everyone’s asked to wear a a mask inside to keep both voters and poll workers safe.
And if you’re not sure your absentee ballot has been counted, and wonder whether you should show up in person to vote again … read on for advice.
U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, with Hamden’s delegation, plus one hopeful, one New Haven senator, and Lieut. Gov. Bysiewicz.
In the last hours before polls open across the state, Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz stood in a whipping wind next to a ballot drop box in Hamden to make what has crystallized as Connecticut Democrats’ main pitch just before Tuesday’s election: Vote Democrat if you like your healthcare.
Brother Born at giveaway: “Conservatism is the new rock and roll.”
Congressional candidate Margaret Streicker arrived in Newhallville with 5,000 child-sized masks and a “Blue Lives Matter” message — the latter of which sparked lively discussion.
My name is Adrian Huq, and I am an 18 year-old organizer for the New Haven Climate Movement. When the New Haven Peace Commission reached out to our organization on if we would endorse their referendum on the New Haven ballot — “Shall Congress prepare for health and climate crises by transferring funds from the military budget to cities for human needs, jobs, and an environmentally sustainable economy?” — I knew this was something we needed to support from a moral and climate-focused perspective.
DeLauro addresses GOTV rally Saturday in Dixwell Plaza.
Three days away from an election overshadowed by a pandemic, mass unemployment, and national political tensions, U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro and a troop of fellow Democratic candidates urged voters to remember that government must play an active role in helping the vulnerable survive calamitous times.

Figuratively, State Sen. George Logan was in a few different places Thursday morning before work. He was on a street corner waving to voters in the rain, he was in a meeting of the Griffin Hospital Board of Directors, and he was giving an interview … all at the same time.

Paul Lee with Sen. Chris Murphy and Jorge Cabrera.
Chris Murphy came to his door Tuesday afternoon, Paul Lee did not ask about Supreme Court nominations or federal aid packages. Instead, he asked the U.S. senator what almost every Hamden voter asks when a politician comes to the door: When will our taxes decrease?
Maritza Gant of the Registrar of Voters Office signs up Yale graduate student Atticus Mellor-Goldman as a steady stream of voters showed up outside 200 Orange St. on deadline day.
The clock’s ticking: Complete and return your absentee ballot now, preferably at a special downtown box. Or make your Election Day “plan” for voting in person.
Then sit tight — and don’t expect to know the outcome before going to sleep on Nov. 3.
Meanwhile, “teams” of lawyers will make sure every vote will count, even if President Trump goes to court to short-circuit the process.

An absentee ballot dropbox outside 200 Orange St.
New Haven’s official tally of absentee ballots filled out and returned to the city/town clerk’s office jumped by over 70,000 percent in two days — a sign that the local office is chipping away at its ballot backlog and stepping up use of a state-mandated database less than two weeks from the Nov. 3 election.

New Haven Peace Commission member Millie Grenough: Let’s spend on living.
Vote to shift funds from the U.S. military to local governments, and tell your friends about it.
This was the message at multiple community management team meetings this month, where members of the New Haven Peace Commission pitched Dwight, Downtown and Wooster Square neighbors on a referendum on the ballot this year.
Two Italian-Americans are running for New Haven’s U.S. Congressional Seat, and a local Italian-American group has endorsed … their non-Italian-American opponent.

Susan Bysiewicz.
Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz made a pitch to get out the vote in a different kind of presidential election Tuesday, one that won’t affect who sits in the White House next, but that might spur young soon-to-be voters to political action.
Candidates Jameson White, Martin Looney, Alex Taubes.
Expect housing, jobs, and taxes, among other issues, to be on the agenda as the three candidates for the 11th State Senate District seat debate Wednesday night.
