Meanwhile, teams” of lawyers will make sure every vote will count, even if President Trump goes to court to short-circuit the process.

Ballot Hotline Launched; 12.8K Ballots Sent Out; 4.2K Ballots Returned

The city/town clerk’s office has launched a new hotline for local voters who have questions about their absentee ballots, as the official number of New Haven absentee ballot applications processed rose to 12,822 and the number of absentee ballots returned to 4,261.

New Haven’s official tally of absentee ballots filled out and returned to the city/town clerk’s office jumped by over 70,000 percent in two days — a sign that the local office is chipping away at its ballot backlog and stepping up use of a state-mandated database less than two weeks from the Nov. 3 election.

This was the message at multiple community management team meetings this month, where members of the New Haven Peace Commission pitched Dwight, Downtown and Wooster Square neighbors on a referendum on the ballot this year.

I mailed my absentee ballot today, and I almost missed it. I was so focused on the people I wanted to vote for — and certain people I wanted to vote against — that I almost missed the block of text on the right-hand side of the ballot:

Shall Congress prepare for health and climate crises by transferring funds from the military budget to cities for human needs, jobs and an environmentally sustainable economy?”
