Patty McGill and her neighbors have seen enough airborne cars jump curbs and land in their yards, taking out landscaping and front porches — and occasionally killing people.
Six New Haven Fire Department recruits (pictured) ran in Sunday’s Tommy Fund Firefighter Relay in Westville. The runners carried a 50-foot-long fire hose inscribed with the names of New Haven firefighters who have perished in the line of duty.

Awaiting the start of the tour outside Lyric Hall.
They came to see the good, and the not so good.
“When it comes to the walking tour,” said Kimberley Parsons-Whitaker, associate director of the Connecticut Main Street Center, “we want to see warts and all.”

Colorful canopies dotted a cordoned section of Judwin Avenue in upper Westville Sunday afternoon, as neighbors came out to enjoy a block party organized by former Alder Sergio Rodriguez and wife Randi Rubin-Rodriguez. The big draw was not a parked fire truck that drew out curious children, but a relaxed Governor Dannel P. Malloy sporting jeans and a blue dress shirt, making yet another reelection campaign stop in the city he needs to win big again on Nov. 4. (We’ve lost track of the number of visits; he has another planned for Monday afternoon across town at Bella Vista.)

Just up the street from the now fenced-in corner where Westville’s Delaney’s Tap Room and Restaurant once stood, stands Barrage Designs, Westville Center’s newest business.
Two weeks after Delaney’s Restaurant and Tap Room burned to the ground in the heart of Westville Village, Fire Chief Allyn Wright returned to tell neighbors that his crews did all they could in the face of an all-night electrical fire they had no chance of stopping.

Waterman next to “Feral Seed” at a farewell reception.
Westville artist Gar Waterman is heading back to Dartmouth, his alma mater — where his new work, “Feral Seed,” a nearly 11-foot, commissioned bronze sculpture, has found a home.
Community Action Agency has set up a fund to help the ten people who lost their homes in last week’s fire that destroyed Delaney’s Restaurant and Tap Room and the apartments above it.
That’s a question either I or my girlfriend will ask on a weekly basis. Sometimes more depending on how many times we’ve visited recently or how tired we are to make dinner. After all, the bar was always a quick walk down Central Avenue from our home, and we could depend on the taps to be flowing with great beer, the kitchen to be cooking up great wings and fries, and more importantly, we’d be certain to have a great time.

Freshly planted trees garnished with hostas and lillies look beautiful to those who slow down to notice, but for the Green Hill Terrace residents who planted them, the effort is not just about beautification. It’s about survival.

School bells have stopped chiming for summer break, but memories of an exciting unit that had Edgewood School third-graders visiting Hartford’s Trash Museum, participating in an Edgewood Park clean up, and creating related art and poetry, continue to resonate with staff and students alike. This article was submitted by third grade teacher Kim Rogers and Arts Integration Coordinator Juliet Avelin, both of Edgewood School.
After a city homeless shelter evicted him Thursday night, Flor Rico Jones traveled to Westville to knock on Mayor Toni Harp’s front door. He had company.
