Preliminary work is about to start on a 30-year-old state plan to smooth traffic on Upper Whalley Avenue — just as an 11-year-old girl’s (pictured) death has led “traffic-calmers” to ask for a delay.
Drawing a “line in the sand” over the hit-and-run killing of an 11-year-old girl, Westville neighbors signed onto a citywide “safe streets” campaign and pressed for action on the fatal intersection’s traffic light.

It took only one menacing car to cut short the life of Gabrielle “Gabby” Alexis Lee, 11, two weeks ago. It would take dozens and dozens of cars — and their hundreds and hundreds of passengers — to properly lay her to rest.

She said she watched as the school’s rubber playground was gradually torn up by vandals, leaving black spots. Next year, the school will be rebuilt from the ground up, and Henderson hopes that the improvements will include better security.

They decried what they termed a coercive cult. Their targets called them “cyber-terrorists.”

The Bank distributes 50,000 – 60,000 diapers monthly to families living in poverty in the greater New Haven area.
