The city is looking to curb the number of nip bottles littering sidewalks, public parks, and storm drains by pushing for a statewide bottle deposit for the popular alcohol miniatures. It should not expect to find much support among city liquor store owners.
Whether or not other mayors join her, Mayor Toni Harp has instructed her legal staff to prepare a lawsuit against the state for failing to reimburse New Haven fully for revenue lost on tax-exempt properties.

Hartford—Gov. Dannel P. Malloy used his last “State of the State” address to urge Connecticut to be a fairer state: fairer to women, fairer to working people, and fairer to the most vulnerable in society.
Mayor Toni Harp noticed that Malloy left out one form of fairness: Fairness to cities like New Haven.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy kicked off the new state legislative session Wednesday with his final “State of the State” address in the House of Representatives. He used it to concentrate not on the numbers, but on “fairness,” calling for among other measures, a pay equity bill for women and a raised minimum wage.
