Bonchon Chicken co-owner Tony Zhou shows off a freshly fried plate of chicken — the 20-piece “medium.”
When Tony Zhou first tried Korean fried chicken in 2014, he had no idea that a Korean soap opera was in part responsible for the explosion in popularity of the culinary phenomenon in China, Europe and the United States.

The move to legalize marijuana in Connecticut has a New Haven entrepreneur eyeing his next move: Marketing a homegrown marijuana-infused barbecue sauce. And becoming “the Heinz ketchup of the cannabis industry.”
Local filmmaker Gorman Bechard feels strongly about a lot of things. The Replacements are the greatest rock band of all time. Animal abuse should be prosecuted as a felony.
And there are only three pizza places in the whole world that matter: Pepe’s, Sally’s and Modern.

Rawlings, bringing the heat in the kitchen; Wells, bringing the vibe.
The young man and woman peered at a phone and then into the windows of Mecha, the popular Crown Street noodle bar. It was about 10:40 a.m. The restaurant wouldn’t open until 11 a.m.
They tried the door anyway, and found it was unlocked. They were in luck. Or so they thought.

For Hannah Pimenta, the front of house supervisor, the jazz brunch is one of her favorite things about working at Elm City Market.
“I love it here. It’s so family oriented and such a great environment,” she said. “This event creates a different spin on brunch. It’s more soothing and relaxing. A lot of regulars will show up, but we’re always seeing new faces. It brings people together.”

Shell & Bones, the upscale waterfront eatery, is trying to stop a next-door competitor from adding dinner service, claiming there’s not enough parking spots to go around.
For months, Ryan Taylor has been trying to expand his East Rock coffee shop into an after-hours wine bar. If his East and State Street neighbors have their say, that may not happen anytime soon.
