One young man knew seven people who have been shot. He said he is tired of memorial buttons and T‑shirts. Now a college freshman in New Haven, he was moved to volunteer to help write a middle-school curriculum on avoiding taking up guns.
Then a woman told the story of how, when she was 12, in 1991, she witnessed her 14-year-old brother being shot and killed on a New Haven street. The murder remains unsolved. She has for years run a mentorship program for kids vulnerable to street violence.

As Yale announced the launch of a new $7 billion “For Humanity” fundraising campaign Saturday afternoon, over 150 protesters with New Haven Rising and local unions rallied across the street on the corner of Prospect and Grove to press for the university to send more money to its hometown.

The FBI has charged a Yale School of Medicine administrator with mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering for allegedly stealing and selling millions of dollars worth of computer hardware that she had purchased through her workplace account.

Armed with paint, roughly 150 organizers, union members, and New Haveners Saturday gathered to call on Yale to “pay their fair share” for tax-exempt properties and honor a local hiring commitment.
The pandemic has delayed the in-person public opening of one of New Haven’s new landmarks, the $150 million Schwarzman Center encompassing the university’s Woolsey Hall, Commons, and other spaces at Grove and College streets.
