New Haveners urged the mayor to use the city’s upcoming once-in-a-generation federal aid windfall to decrease crime, add youth programing for all ages, and invest in more community centers.
Anyone who makes under $10,000 year can get free help Saturday filing taxes so they can get money that’s waiting ffor them, in the form of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

The “Great Give 2021” community fundraiser passed the $3 million mark as it ended its final hour — but no begins an overtime period in which New Haven can help break a $3.6 million record.

A citywide youth ambassador program. Fixed up city playgrounds. Drop-in centers for the homeless. Street outreach workers focused on preventing summer violence.
Those are just a few of the programs the city hopes to fund this summer with $6.3 million in federal Covid relief.

(Opinion) To live more sustainably in the future, we need to organize ourselves into “cells” of people working together to solve a problem. New Haven is a great place to start this new economy, because we are already connected through nonprofits, community organizations and mission-driven businesses.
While the pandemic proved fatal to some childcare centers, Tennille Smalls found a way to open a new one — with the help of a New Haven coalition that has enabled other providers to remain open.

Organizers of an annual indoors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day community teach-in took this year’s event across the street and outdoors Monday — with a lesson by example in community partnership.
