Transit director Aysola: "Always a challenge to move people away from driving their cars."
(Updated) Imagine a city-run Uber equivalent that provides on-demand electric van rides for the same amount it costs to ride the bus.
But only within certain neighborhoods of New Haven. And only if the seven-seat vans are full of passengers looking for a more climate-friendly alternative to single-occupant cars.

Church near Elm: One-way, but not for long?
The downtown one-way streets covered by this latest traffic study (in yellow).
A City Hall-adjacent stretch of Church Street could see cars driving both north and south — intentionally, and legally — in the not-too-distant future, as the Elicker administration prepares to act on one decade-old two-way-street conversion plan at the same time that it undertakes yet another study targeting rapid-fire downtown one-way streets.

Doug Hausladen: “At the end of the day, without any houses for people to go to, nothing is changing.”
With more and more people arriving at Union Station not to catch a train but in search of shelter, the transit hub’s management is working on ways to redirect people to the right resources — while questioning how much change they can create in the face of a fundamental housing shortage.

The not-yet-opened canal trail, viewed from Whitney south of Audubon.
Concrete has been poured and hard-hatted construction workers are busy on site, but the final downtown stretch of New Haven’s Farmington Canal Heritage Trail won’t be done until the fall — thanks to a mandatory break to accommodate summer camps in an adjacent park.

“No to Tweed expansion; yes to EIS.”
“How does destroying the Cove make New Haven a better place?”
“Stop paving our wetlands.”
“This is all greed.”
That panoply of protest signs in the lobby of East Haven High School’s auditorium offered a harbinger for the direction of the public meeting to come regarding the proposed expansion of Tweed New Haven Airport.

Our Boeing 737-700. Fully equipped, except for one screw.
7:32 a.m., Thursday, March 23, Charleston, S.C.
