A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition after getting shot on Blake Street near Whittlesey Avenue on Monday night.
That’s according to an email press release sent out by city police spokesperson Sgt. Cherelle Carr on Tuesday.
She wrote that, at around 9:31 p.m. on Monday, city police received a report of a gunshot victim on Blake near Whittlesey.
Responding officers found a 21-year-old woman “in the rear of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds to the body.” Medical personnel determined that she had been shot in the stomach and the back. She was transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she is still in critical condition.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification responded to the scene to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and search for surveillance footage. They did find ballistic evidence on scene.
“It was reported that the suspect responsible for the shooting was barricaded in a residence located on Blake Street,” Carr wrote. “The residence was checked and safely cleared, the suspect was not located.”
