Wilbur Cross and Wooster Square are going electric — or, at least, readying to keep electric cars going.
That’s because the State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has awarded New Haven with 24 electric vehicle charging stations, including 12 direct current fast chargers for the Wilbur Cross Athletic Fields Parking Lot and 12 200kW on-street chargers for Wooster Square.
New Haven was one of seven municipalities to win that equipment after the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Connecticut DEEP a $14.6 million grant through its Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Grant Program.
“We only get one planet, so it’s our duty and responsibility to do our part to sustain it for future generations to come,” Mark Boughton, senior advisor to the governor on infrastructure, stated in a Thursday release announcing the grants.
