A 42-year-old New Havener named Peter Arroyo was shot and killed near Wolcott Street and Ferry Street early Monday afternoon.
New Haven Police Department spokesperson Officer Christian Bruckhart sent out an email press release about the homicide Tuesday afternoon.
He wrote that, at around 12:38 p.m. Monday, city police received multiple 911 calls and a ShotSpotter alert of several shots fired in the area of Wolcott and Ferry.
Upon arrival, officers found a man, later identified as Arroyo, “on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.”
Arroyo was transported to Yale Haven Hospital at 20 York St., where he died. Cops found ballistic evidence at the scene.
Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203 – 946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip-line at 866 – 888-TIPS (8477).
Arroyo’s shooting death marks the fourth homicide so far this year, according to the city’s latest weekly CompStat report. That’s compared to 11 homicides by mid-May last year.
