City police are now investigating the August shooting death of an 8‑year-old boy in the Hill as a homicide.
City police spokesperson Capt. Anthony Duff made that announcement Thursday afternoon in an email press release.
The incident in question occurred on August 6, when police responded to 630 Howard Ave. and found an eight-year-old boy who had been shot in the head.
“The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined an eight-year-old boy’s death in his Howard Avenue home is a homicide,” Duff wrote. “The New Haven Police Department is continuing to investigate the fatal shooting which occurred August 6, 2020. The death is considered an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.”
The department had initially investigated the incident as the result of an accidental firearm discharge, per an early August press release.
