Oden, known by his nickname A‑O,” was shot at Winchester Avenue and Starr Street at 6:58 p.m., according to police. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Oden had been robbed recently by some younger people in the neighborhood.

About two and a half hours later Wednesday evening, a drive-by shooting occurred across town in Fair Haven, at Ferry and Chatham streets. The bullets from a passing car struck three separate men. They were taken to the hospital, where they were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The victims were 35, 32, and 22, according to a release from police spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway.

Assistant Police Chief Karl Jacobson said all three were known” to police and had had contact” with law enforcement in recent weeks. He also said police believe it was a targeted, not random, shooting.
