Citing his work as a union organizer, the Connecticut AFL-CIO has endorsed Jorge Cabrera’s bid for the 17th State Senate District seat.
The union announced the endorsement in a release issued Tuesday afternoon.
Cabrera, an organizer with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 919, faces Hamden Council member Justin Farmer in an Aug. 11 Democratic primary. The winner will face Republican incumbent State Sen. George Logan in the Nov. 3 general election.
The statewide AFL-CIO represents local unions with a total of over 220,000 members.
“Jorge’s work as a union organizer has helped working people gain economic security and a voice in the workplace. The economic challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic will require strong leaders like Jorge Cabrera who will work hard to ensure that the state addresses economic inequities and creates an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few. We believe Jorge Cabrera will well represent the interests of working families in the district,” state AFL-CIO President Sal Luciano stated in the release.
