After Ducking, Gallo
Set To Testify Before FOIC

Gallo (pictured) used to be a top-ranking New Haven cop until the early days of community policing.

East Haven Police Chief Leonard Gallo is expected to testify before the Freedom of Information Commission Jan. 25, according to his lawyer. Gallo was subpoenaed last November—but did not show up—to explain why requested documents pertaining to allegations of police abuse and racial profiling were not turned over.

He didn’t get a subpoena last time, so that’s why he wasn’t there,” said New Haven attorney Jonathon Einhorn, who’s representing the chief. Gallo was put on paid administrative leave from his East Haven position last April pending the outcome of a federal investigation of his department. At the Nov. 29 FOI Commission hearing, Yale Law students, who have been involved in the alleged profiling case, said a subpoena was served to Gallo at both the East Haven Police Department and Gallo’s North Haven home, but said they didn’t know whether the chief personally received the papers.
