For the first time in 20 years, there’s more than one airline operating out of Tweed New Haven Airport.
That’s thanks to the Tuesday launch of new flights out of New Haven, serviced by Breeze Airways. The budget airline announced back in August that it would join Avelo Airlines at Tweed to become a second option for travelers. Avelo sought to get out ahead of Breeze’s blowing into town with its own Monday press conference announcing four more New Haven routes of its own.
“New Haven is a growing city and a destination that more and more people want to visit and enjoy. It’s also wonderful for our residents to have convenient, low-cost travel options for a family vacation, to visit friends and loved ones, and for business trips,” Mayor Justin Elicker stated in a Tuesday press release.
“Today marks a significant step forward in expanding travel options and enhancing the economic vitality of this region,” said Robert Reed, chairman of the New Haven Airport Authority Board. “We are thrilled to welcome Breeze to Tweed, and we look forward to the new opportunities this partnership will bring for our residents, businesses, and visitors.”
Here are Breeze’s destinations out of Tweed, with start dates ranging from Tuesday to early February:
• Fort Myers, Fla.
• Orlando, Fla.
• West Palm Beach, Fla.
• Vero Beach, Fla.
• Charleston, S.C.
• Jacksonville, Fla.
• Norfolk, Va.
• Richmond, Va.
• Raleigh-Durham, N.C.
• Sarasota/Bradenton, Fla.
• New Orleans, La.
Tweed received approval from federal regulators to build a terminal expansion and runway extension back in December 2023, and last month announced a $4 million boost for that project. Meanwhile, in September, Tweed received approval for temporary office, ticketing, and passenger-waiting trailers to stay up three more years, until the new terminal is built.
