Local Catholic college Albertus Magnus is expanding its partnership with New Haven Promise to include adult learners — specifically, New Haven Promise alumni earning a degree through Albertus’s Professional and Graduate Studies (PGS) Division.
That announcement came in a Tuesday press release from Albertus Magnus.
New Haven Promise is a local scholarship fund for New Haven Public Schools students. The scholarship’s alumni will receive a 15 percent discount on tuition costs when they enroll in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program offered through Albertus’s PGS program. Enrollment will also include access to “employment and student internship opportunities through New Haven Promise as well as invitations to career fairs and other professional development events.”
Tuesday’s press release quotes New Haven Promise President Patricia Melton as stating, “Our Scholars are lifelong learners and this opportunity gives them a chance to continue their education locally, with flexibility to pursue their passions. We look forward to increasing the number of our alumni obtaining master’s degrees through this program.”
Albertus’s Vice President for Enrollment Management Brian Fernandes also stated, “As New England’s most diverse Catholic college, Albertus Magnus College takes great pride in promoting homegrown talent by making their dream of higher education more accessible and more affordable.”
Separately, in an email, Fernandes said that, since 2018, Albertus has supported 68 students through New Haven Promise and awarded “$2,729,933 to New Haven Promise Scholars who joined directly out of high school and has made a positive impact on their lives and careers — as they continue to live by the Dominican Four Pillars of Study, Prayer, Community, and Service.”
