The next time people read an education article by Aliyya Swaby, the dateline will be from the Lone Star State.
Swaby, the New Haven Independent’s schools reporter these past two years as well as the host of WNHH radio’s “In Transit” program, is leaving town and heading south to cover statewide education for the Texas Tribune, the largest of the not-for-profit public-interest city and state news websites to emerge in the U.S. over the past 12 years.
“At the Independent, I learned the importance of seeking stories at the most local and individual level to build a larger narrative. I plan to take that skill with me to cover education policy and politics across more than 1,000 independent school districts in Texas,” she said.
Swaby, a 2013 Yale graduate who grew up in New York, will be based in Austin, a blue lagoon amid a sea of red. We have loved working with her in New Haven and can’t wait to see what other heights she scales in Texas and beyond.
