The clock started at 8 a.m. Wednesday. For the following 36 hours, not-for-profits will compete in an annual mass appeal to New Haveners to help do-good groups do even better.
The race is called the “GreatGive.” Donors pick not-for-profit groups whose work they support — then go online and donate money. The organizations that raise the most money win matching prizes of up to $15,000 from the event’s sponsor, the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
The idea is that everyone wins — not just the grand prize recipients, but all organizations that get needed contributions.
This is the event’s fourth year. It has raised a total of $1.3 million for not-for-profits in the past years.
Click here to donate. The page leads you to a list of all the organizations that participate and the means to make your contribution. On the list you’ll find Online Journalism Project — the not-for-profit that publishes the New Haven Independent — on that list … so please feel free to donate! And please check out the many other worthy community organizations who can use the help so they can continue fighting infant mortality, supporting community health programs, feeding the hungry, teaching kids about the environment, tutoring kids after school, and much more.
