Another Cop Placed On Leave Amid Domestic Violence Investigation

A 20-year veteran cop has been placed on leave amid another case involving alleged domestic violence.

Interim Police Chief Renee Dominguez confirmed Thursday that she has placed the officer on leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation. She said she placed the officer on leave on Tuesday.

That’s all I’ve got for you,” she said when asked for more details.

The internal investigation involves an allegation that the officer sexually assaulted a second officer, with whom he has been in a romantic relationship, according to people familiar with the case. The officer placed on leave has alleged that he, not the second officer, is the victim in the relationship. The second officer is on leave as well.

A criminal investigation related to the case is also underway.

Neither of the officers involved responded to calls Thursday seeking comment.

At least seven New Haven cops have been arrested on domestic violence charges over the past four years. At least two of the cases involve alleged violence in relationships between two members of the force.

One of those cases involves a seven-year veteran of the force who was arrested this past Friday on domestic violence charges.

Four separate New Haven officers were arrested on domestic violence charges within three months in 2018. Read about that here.
