Arson Suspect Sought

Police don’t know the name or whereabouts of the man who allegedly started two Christmas Day fires in the Dwight neighborhood, including at the historic Walter Camp house. But they do have video of him near the scene — and are hoping someone might recognize him.

Police released the video (above) Thursday.

And they posted an award of $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in either incident (for a total of $5,000).

The first fire occurred on Garden Street at 5:45 a.m. on Christmas Day, the second at 8 a.m. at the Camp House at 1303 Chapel.

Fire investigators subsequently concluded that someone intentionally set the fires. Police then took over the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Connecticut Arson Hotline at 1 – 800-84ARSON (1 – 800-842‑7766) or the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services/Fire Investigation Unit at 203 – 946-6304,” police spokesman Capt. Anthony Duff wrote in a release.
